OneDriveConnect

OneDrive Connect Screen Shot - Many organisations are now using cloud services, particularly Microsoft Office 365 which is hosted in the Azure could platform. 0365 offers numerous advantages over an on-premises solution and one of the most useful benefits is the OneDrive product (formerly known as Sky Drive). The OneDrive feature within Offices 365 offers cloud storage for your user’s data. Storing data in the cloud allows for easy access from either the school or home environment, using all of the well-known devices based on Windows, IOS and Android. Microsoft currently offers 2 methods for accessing your data stored in the cloud: The OneDrive application which synchronises data from your local network to the cloud. Web based access via the Office 365 Portal. Many organisations use the OneDrive app which synchronises data with OneDrive using a background task.

The Problems with OneDrive

The OneDrive icon is displayed in Windows Explorer but is not accessible via a drive letter that many users are used to and feel comfortable with. A number of older applications cannot interact directly with the OneDrive app and therefore cannot utilise it for saving or opening work.

The DMS OneDrive Connect Solution

OneDriveConnect Dialog - The DMS OneDrive Connect application runs when the user logs on to the local network. It then performs the following actions; 1. Authenticates the user with O365 using single sign on. 2. Maps the user’s OneDive to a specified drive letter and label on the local computer. 3. Optionally maps additional SharePoint libraries to additional drive letters. 4. Optionally opens the O365 portal home page after the drive mapping has completed. This allows older applications to freely interact with the user’s OneDrive, as they recognise the mapped drive. In addition, users have been using drives to access network shares or connected USB devices for years, so will find this a much more familiar process. OneDrive Connect can display a dialogue when connecting or can be configured to run silently. Administrators can also specify which users will be mapped to their oneDrive based on Include and Exclude Group Membership. OneDrive Connect maintains log files which can be hosted on a central network share.
